How to fix three common printer maintenance mistakes

You lovingly take care of your house, your cars and all your gadgets and accessories. But, do you know that taking care of your printers is equally important? If you don’t, your printers performance may get hampered and affect your work as a whole.

In this post, we are discussing a few common printer maintenance mistakes. Read and know how can you prevent it with appropriate printer maintenance. Here we go:
1. The printhead is not adequately clean
People sometimes neglect cleaning their printers as often as they should. This is because people usually don’t know how often they should clean their printers. Also, they may be caught up in some other chores, and eventually, cleaning the printers is neglected.
However, if you are not cleaning your printers, they start messing up your business processes that include printing.
Solution:
How often should you clean your printers?
Direct thermal printers: every other day or when you change a label roll
Thermal transfer printers: every time you change ribbons
2. Using the wrong type of alcohol to clean your printhead
Another common mistake is using rubbing alcohol for printers cleaning. Rubbing alcohol usually contains 70% alcohol, and 30% of the alcohol is left as a residue on the printhead. This residue eventually can be harmful and corrosive for printers.
Solution:
Isopropyl alcohol has less than 99% – 100% alcohol and is a recommended product.
Additionally, instead of using rubbing alcohol, you can use specific cleaning pens, pads, or swabs that are designed to clean printheads.
3. Not using compressed air in dusty environments
When the printers are kept in a dirty environment, dust and debris build up on them. This dust and debris affect the internal sensors of printers, which means they don’t work correctly. You may feel like you are working with an old-school camcorder with the lens on.
Solution:
If your printers are set aside in a dusty environment, it’s recommended to use compressed air for a quick blowout at least once in a month. In this way, you can prevent your printer’s sensors from reading incorrectly.
By following the cleansing and maintenance tips shared above, you can increase the lifeline of your printers and run your business smoothly.
